This is a perfect example why I have an hourly rate. How can I give a realistic cost to the job without first knowing what’s fully involved to bring a film to life?
Chopping down the RAW audio of this recent film took 3 hours in itself.
The first step is to listen. Then I make a rough cut. I then make another refined cut. I then make a ‘usable’ cut where there’s still elements that won’t ever be used depending on how the flow goes.
I’m totally transparent with my work and editing. I feel it’s responsible and honest to let my customers know what’s involved and how they’re spending their marketing budget.
This is how I work. I appreciate some don’t and prefer to just pluck a cost from thin air.
If you’ve any questions just ask.
